Staff Biography

Jamie Gibbs

Brass/Visual Technician

Originally from Denver, Colorado Jamie has been a member of the Empire Statesmen every year since 1999.  He has been a member of the Brass Staff each year since 2001 and has been a member of the Visual Staff since 2005. 

Jamie graduated from Medina High School located in Medina, NY in 1999 and went on to pursue his music career at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.  In 2003 he graduated from Mansfield with a BA in Music Education.  While at Mansfield he was inducted into the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity.  Members of this fraternity include Aaron Copland, Stan Kenton, American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, and the great late Maynard Ferguson.

Since his graduation from high school Jamie has been a staff member or consultant with many Marching Bands and Drum Corps in the North East.  He has been a consultant for the Arkport Marching Band from New York, The Versailles Marching Band from Ohio along with the LeRoy Marching Band from LeRoy, New York.  In 2003 Jamie was the Interim Brass Caption Head for the Victor Marching Blue Devils from Victor, NY.  In 2004 Jamie was the Assistant Marching Director for the Marcus Whitman Wildcat Marching Band from Rushville, NY.  Jamie is also on the current Brass Staff for the Empire Cadets Drum Corps out of Rochester, NY and most recently was offered a consultant position with Excelsior Drum and Bugle Corps out of Albany, NY where fellow Staff member Joey Pero currently serves as Caption Head and Arranger.

As a student at Mansfield Jamie played with many musicians some of whom include Dennis DiBlasio, George Rabbi, Tom Harrell, Randy Brecker, as well as Diva, an all female big band.  Growing up Jamie started playing professional gigs with a high school student based big band in Buffalo called Sugar and Jazz at the age of 12. 

As a member of the Empire Statesmen Jamie has always shown the pride and tradition of the Statesmen family.  He has been a soloist since 2000 and in 1999 he was a DCA Individual Champion in the duet competition with former Statesmen Alumni Tim Eick.  Jamie was a member of the 2004 DCA World Champion “City of Angels” show as well.

Jamie is currently the Choral Director for the Nazareth Hall Elementary School in Rochester, NY and also a member of the Empire Statesmen, here in Rochester, NY.
