“All-Stars” Big Hit At Lilac ParadeOn Saturday May 10th, the corps was honored to have a good number of Empire “All-Stars” join them for the annual Lilac Day Parade. Starting with a 9:30 warm-up the “All-Stars” were busy getting ready to parade down the route to excite the crowd statesmen style. The corps was the first musical entry and it was wonderful to see close to 90 Empire Statesmen on the street. The corps played Yankee Doodle and Rio many times to a very receptive Lilac crowd. The street beat of old was resurrected and all the vocals were ringing through the streets just like the “old days”. It was a proud day in Statesmen history. “All-Stars” who participated were: Brian King Donny Allen We saw many “All-Stars” lining the parade route. We hope that they will join the “band wagon” and come and play for the Memorial Day Parade, 4th of July Parade or the 5th of July Encore performance at the DCA show at St. John Fisher College. On Sunday May 4th, the Empire Statesmen invited all alumni to come and work on parade tunes for the upcoming Lilac, Memorial Day and 4th of July parades. Despite the less than beautiful weekend, the turnout was very good and we look forward to having more alums at the next rehearsal. The next alumni rehearsal will be held Saturday June 14th from 4:30-6:00 pm at Tech Park. It sounded and looked great and it was a blast to see the alums in the ranks again. In attendance were:
I (Jimmy Steele) personally would like to apologize to David Martin and Stash Hoholuk for coming on Saturday. There was a mistake in the last letter that was my fault (didn’t proofread it enough). Both of these fine alums came on Saturday just to find out that it was on Sunday. It was great to see you both and we hope that we will see you at a parade or at the July 5th extravaganza. If you are planning on marching this upcoming Saturday (May 10th) at the Lilac Parade, here are the particulars: Line-Up: Science Parkway (directions on statesmen.org) Time: Report and ready to warm-up at 9:00 am (Science Parkway) Parade begins at 10:30 am Uniform: If you would like to buy an “All-Star” shirt they will be available on Saturday at the parade.
